In this section, we offer visibility to the large number of messages in support and appreciation of our Department and our students that we constantly receive from alumnae, colleagues, guest lecturers visiting our campus, and scholars from other institutions met at off-campus events.

Whoever is interested in supporting the mission and the activities of the Department can follow the instructions here.

"Congratulations on this achievement that is the result of your brilliance and hard work. I hope you can take a moment to reflect and celebrate."

"I wanted to say how pleased I know Phyllis Gordon would be if she knew that you have found her work important and that you have been making use of her splendid library. Phyllis was a very special person鈥攚onderfully insightful, kind, generous, and deeply loyal to the college. She was an excellent trustee and always valued what was best for the college. I am so glad to know of your work."

"I had a wonderful time (and learned so much)! What an extraordinary conference you put together."

"The Bracciolini symposium was fabulous and illustrated the many hours of work you and your colleagues engaged in to make this all happen! It was also wonderful to learn more about the BMC connection in this work - the incredible contributions of Phyllis Goodhart Gordon. Thanks again to you and your colleagues for a job very well done!!"

"In the Fall of 2023 and the Fall of 2024 semesters, I had the privilege of giving the introductory lecture for the Italian Senior Seminar, Italian 380. Each time, I was genuinely impressed by the intellectual range of the students. The lecture was on Sigmund Freud鈥檚 theory of the Uncanny, which is based on the German writer E.T.A. Hoffmann鈥檚 novella, 鈥淭he Sandmann. But it is also very indebted to a lexical ambiguity in German. The students not only immediately grasped the critical dimension of the theory but also asked very astute questions about issues of translation and translatability and the ethical and empathic use of language. The professors of the course, Roberta Ricci and Luca Zipoli, have imparted to their students not only a deep love of language and literature but they have also given them critical tools to understand and reflect on cultural, social, and political issues in and beyond their college education. It was a pleasure to speak to such critically astute students, and I was very impressed by their quality. They are curious, attentive critical thinkers and the professors have done a great job."

"Siete stati tutti premurosissimi, cordialissimi, dire quasi affettuosi. A tutti voi vanno i miei sinceri ringraziamenti. Congratulazioni vivissime a tutti voi. Ad maiora !!!"

"Congratulations and many, many thanks to you all for the wonderful Day of Patruno! I am sure that he watched the proceedings from a heavenly perch, glass of wine in hand, brushing away the compliments, but enjoying seeing so many students and friends."

"Congratulations and gratitude for the wonderful day you gave us yesterday. It was one of the most meaningful events for me on campus. I only wish Nick could have been there."

"The symposium on Bracciolini was really one of the most delightful conferences I can remember in all my professional years. The talks were at a uniformly high level and so beautifully organized. All interlocked to make a perfectly complete puzzle, there was a spirit of collaboration and camaraderie, not one-upmanship and very nice informal parts, too, over food and drink. I have great appreciation and admiration for all your work and the warm hospitality."

"Thank you so much for your warm welcome to your wonderful class! It was an honor to visit with you. The photos are a joyous memento of our visit for which I am grateful! It made the Flexner such a rich and joyous experience for me! I hope will be able to capture some of the delight in my Flexner book!"

"I wanted to follow up on the remarkable program you put together last week as a tribute to my father and his academic career. I know he would have been incredibly proud to see how significant his work 鈥 and his impact was 鈥 on so many others. Every part of the day was perfect, and the program really captured the essence of who he was as a person and as a teacher. It was emotional of course but in the best of ways. Although it was not your intention the event provided closure for our family with as crazy as the past 2-years have been. Being on the campus he loved and surrounded by the people he touched was a priceless gift to our family. We thank you for making it happen and carrying on his legacy at Bryn Mawr."

"Congratulations again on a wonderful symposium. I learned so much and am inspired to now read some of Primo Levi's works. And what a fitting tribute to Nick Patruno to still inspire others to continue to read and learn from Levi's work. Nick sounds like an amazing man 鈥 I am sorry I did not have the opportunity to know him."

"I wanted to reach out and thank you and the College for the wonderful symposium on Primo Levi dedicated to my Father. It was a wonderful day from beginning to end for myself and our whole family and provided much needed closure and reflection on my Fathers' legacy for our family. Thank you again so much for making it happen."

"I would like to thank you for your kind and warm welcome. I was really pleased to have had the opportunity to visit your beautiful campus and to speak to the excellent Bryn Mawr audience. I look forward to pursuing future collaboration together."

Grazie per l鈥檕spitalit脿!" Read more
