Raining Huo '21, a biochemistry and molecular biology major at Bryn Mawr, has received a prestigious
Raining received the scholarship based on work she's been doing in the lab of Associate Professor of Chemistry Yan Kung.
Researchers in the Kung lab aim to gain molecular insight into the function of enzymes by determining and examining their three-dimensional structures. Huo's research has focused on the enzyme HMGR. Knowledge gained from this project would aid the construction of engineered enzymes, allowing the optimization of production that may benefit the development of novel drug compounds.
After she graduates from Bryn Mawr, Raining plans to pursue a M.D/Ph.D. degree.
The Goldwater Scholarship Program, one of the oldest and most prestigious national scholarships in the natural sciences, engineering, and mathematics in the U.S., seeks to identify and support college sophomores and juniors who show exceptional promise of becoming this nation鈥檚 next generation of research leaders in these fields.
