Name: Holden Davitian
Major: French and Francophone Studies (AB/MA)
Minor: Political Science and Africana Studies
Hometown: Washington, D.C.
Key Bryn Mawr Experiences:
- Working as a TA in the French department for over three years, teaching students at the intensive beginner and intermediate levels. Getting the chance to work with the professors, other TAs, and students has ignited my passion for continuing to work in the classroom in some capacity.
- Engaging with prospective students and families in the Office of Admissions has truly been an honor. Being a tour guide has not only amplified my passion for and love towards Bryn Mawr, but this position has also truly shown me the joy of working with a close-knit team!
- Participating in Bryn Mawr鈥檚 Institut d鈥橝vignon in the summer of 2022 and living and studying in Paris in the fall of 2022 are key to my Bryn Mawr experience. From exploring the history and theatre of Avignon to living with a host family in Paris and attending French universities, I find myself very grateful for the opportunity to bring my learning outside of Bryn Mawr鈥檚 campus. Travel and cultural exchange have been imperative in actualizing my learning in French and Francophone Studies, and I highly recommend taking the leap and studying abroad!
Post-graduation plans: After graduating from Bryn Mawr with both my B.A. and M.A., I will be participating in an English-teaching program in either France or Switzerland. After the year-long teaching program, I will hopefully be attending law school to pursue a career in international law. I hope to apply my international teaching experience to crafting policy that can improve access to proper education on a global scale.
People you want to thank: First and foremost, I would love to thank my parents for their undeniable support. I am grateful to them every day for giving me the best gift I have ever received: the gift of language. I would also like to thank the best friends I have made here on campus (you know who you are!). Finally, a huge thank you, or merci, to Professor Armstrong and Professor Crucifix in the French department and Katarina Karris-Flores and Melanie Bethea in the Office of Admissions.
Message for the rest of the Class of 2023: I am very proud of us; I hope you are too! I am heartbroken that our time together on campus has come to an end, but I am tremendously excited to begin our 鈥渁lumni era.鈥 Anassa Kata!
